Subsequences of automatic sequences and uniform distribution

چکیده
Automatic sequences and their number theoretic properties have been intensively studied during the last 20 or 30 years. Since automatic sequences are quite regular (they just have linear subword complexity) they cannot be used as quasi-random sequences. However, the situation changes drastically when one uses proper subsequences, for example the subsequence along primes or squares. It is conjectured that the resulting sequences are normal sequences which could be already proved for the Thue-Morse sequence along the subsequence of squares. This kind of research is very challenging and was mainly motivated by the Gelfond problems for the sum-of-digits function. In particular during the last few years there was a spectacular progress due to the Fourier analytic method by Mauduit and Rivat. In this article we survey these recent developments, comment on the proof methods and formulate quite general conjectures. We also present a new result on the subsequence along primes of so-called invertible automatic sequences.

Structural repetitive subsequences are most important portion of biological sequences, which play crucial roles on corresponding sequence’s fold and functionality. Biggest class of the repetitive subsequences is “Transposable Elements” which has its own sub-classes upon contexts’ structures. Many researches have been performed to criticality determine the structure and function of repetitiv...

Finding repetitive subsequences in genome is a challengeable problem in bioinformatics research area. A lot of approaches have been proposed to solve the problem, which could be divided to library base and de novo methods. The library base methods use predetermined repetitive genome’s subsequences, where library-less methods attempt to discover repetitive subsequences by analytical approach...
متن کاملFurther Baire Results on the Distribution of Subsequences
This paper presents results about the distribution of subsequences which are typical in the sense of Baire. The first main part is concerned with sequences of the type xk = nkα, n1 < n2 < n3 < · · · , mod 1. Improving a result of Šalát we show that, if the quotients qk = nk+1/nk satisfy qk ≥ 1 + ε, then the set of α such that (xk) is uniformly distributed is of first Baire category, i.e. for ge...
متن کاملSUBSEQUENCES OF AUTOMATIC SEQUENCES INDEXED BY ⌊nc⌋ AND CORRELATIONS
Abstract. The main goal of this paper is to study the behavior of subsequences uc = {u(⌊nc⌋) : n ∈ N} of automatic sequences u that are indexed by [n] for some c > 1. In particular we show that the densities of the letters of uc are precisely the same as those of the original sequence (provided that c < 7/5). In this sense uc and u behave in the same way. However, the pair correlation might be ...
متن کاملWeighted Ergodic Theorems Along Subsequences of Density Zero
We consider subsequence versions of weighted ergodic theorems, and show that for a wide class of subsequences along which a.e. convergence of Cesaro averages has been established, we also have a.e. convergence for the subsequence Cesaro weighted averages, when the weights are obtained from uniform sequences produced by a connected apparatus.
